We returned to Northern Ireland after spending over 20 years teaching in the Middle East and Papua New Guinea.
When we bought Mountain View in 2000, it was in need of a complete renovation. There was a flat roof extension to the original cottage and attached to this was a large garage-workshop with several rooms.
We took down all the interior walls in the garage-workshop and built two en suite bedrooms and a large lounge/dining room which is now our B&B. The lounge has two sets of French doors accessed from the patio. This is our guests' entrance and is independent from the main house. We have a large garden with benches positioned in various places for guests to sit and relax on and to soak up the lovely views of the Mourne Mountains and Slieve Donard (the highest mountain in Northern Ireland) in particular. Guests are given keys so that they can come and go as they wish. We have private off-road parking at the front of the house.
